I am going to my first bodybuilding & fitness contest this weekend and I can’t wait. I have no idea what to expect, I know for sure Arnold won’t be there. We can also bank on the fact that we will see the effects of long hours in the gym and ultimate sacrifice.
I’m competitive by nature and I love to see athletes on any level, go for it! I had a coach who was one of the most influential men in my life and he taught me the 4 D’s. “Vincent!” he said. “You have to have desire, determination, discipline and defense”. Now that I’m older, I know he stole that one liner from someone but as far as I’m concerned he came up with it… and that makes him a hero. Anyway, enough of the good feel stuff. I hope to have pictures that will inspire and motivate. In the meantime, if your in the Georgia area, drop me an email and check the show out.
As part of my eat right and plan to win series, I’ve decided to cook and show (only if you could taste). I’m a fan of keto diets, Atkins or low carb diets but there must be balance. Carbs can be good especially when you cycle them through out the week. A simple google search for good carbs will give you a list of dos and don’ts.
Carbohydrates are too low my second reason why you are not losing weight properly. When carbs are cut back too far it creates higher levels adrenaline and cortisol in the body which will work against fat loss. I’d say never go under 60 grams in a day. Just try and make sure they come from low glycemic sources such as green veggies and unrefined grains.
Here is a meal I love, Tuna burgers and Sweet Potato Fries!
Have this with some Diet green tea and you’re good to go.
Email me or feel free to comment …I can get you this recipe.
It took me about 20-30 minutes to prepare and 2 to eat LOL, I was starvin’. Good carbs go a long way after a leg workout and even longer to fight off some cravings. Try it! Let me know what you think.
Okay, so dont ask me why. I just felt like it. When I was in high school, I would do push ups during commercials while I did my evening tour. Evening tour?! Yes, this was Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Family Ties and Wheel of Fortune.
I feel swole now (it’s actually lactic acid build up). I did 100 every hour in between erands around the home and I think I might be on to something. My metabolism feels jacked right now and I want to incorporate this some how in the mourning. First, I have to commit to my fasted cardio, then I can start doing these pushups.
So I thought I was doing something big here until I did a little web browsing …
“Lu Di, 6, flexes his muscles as other students watch at a kungfu school in Songshan, central China’s Henan Province July 26, 2006. According to the school’s president Shi Yongdi, Lu did 10,000 push-ups in three hours and twenty minutes on July 22, 2006. Shi said the school was waiving his tuition for ten years due to his outstanding performance, China Daily reported.”
THIS GUY HAS A LITTLE PROBLEM DOING 100 BUT HAS HEART I THINK HE DID…DO YOU?
So I get my bloodwork from the doctor’s office and I get a sheet with a whole bunch of numbers. Some I understand and others I have no clue. Without getting to complicated my cholesterol is low. Generally most people are happy about this but my HDL was a little lower than I’d like it to be.
I had to check with a fellow blogger/ wholefoods guru…she’s pretty awesome. She always comes up with some good stuff I had to share with y’all.
“Fats, fats, fats. We are told so much about fats. Fats kill. Fats cause heart disease. Fats cause cancer.
The purpose of this article is to break through the junk science we’ve all been spoon-fed and tell the truth about fats.
In 1998, the American Heart Association finally came out telling us to limit our intake of trans fats, the main ingredient in margarine.
Trans fats are also called partially hydrogenated oils. They’re in all of our junk foods.
Two things you might not know: heating almost all oils actually starts to turn the oil into partially hydrogenated oil. And the oils in your store are ALREADY RANCID.
A little bit about coconut oil.
Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils you can buy. It does not turn rancid easily. It does not attack your arteries. In fact, coconut oil was one of the foods Weston Price studied in his journeys. He discovered that the local populations considered the coconut a medicine food. He found that people that consumed coconut regularly had no cancer, heart disease, arthritis, or diabetes.
Coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting.
Using coconut oil increases your metabolism. This is the low fat that helps you lose weight. The fats in coconut oil, unlike all other fats, don’t circulate through the blood looking for places to be stored. They go directly to the liver and are turned into instant energy.
Distinguish the differences between HYDROGENATED Coconut oil (the one with the bad press) and VIRGIN Coconut oil.
I use two types of coconut oil, Virgin and Expeller Pressed.Virgin has the sweet coconut flavor that works great in drinks and many foods.For cooking I use the expeller form, it has the same health benefits without the coconut taste so it’s my choice for all frying, making popcorn, or baking.There are many coconut oils available – I use the Tropical Traditions Gold Label (it’s a black label with gold type) and their Expeller Coconut oil.www.tropicaltraditions.com
Let’s take a look at the healing properties of coconut oil:
Coconut oil is called the “low fat” fat. It actually acts like a carbohydrate. It is quickly broken down in the liver and used as quick energy. It is NOT stored like other fats. It boosts energy and endurance. Many athletes use it blended into their drinks. It also supports thyroid function and increases your metabolism (great if you want to lose weight).
Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections. It kills the fungus/yeast infections that cause candida, ringworm, athlete’s foot, thrush, jock itch, diaper rash and more.
Coconut oil improves digestion and absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium), and amino acids. It improves the body’s use of blood glucose and improves insulin secretion and absorption (great for type II diabetes).
Coconut oil helps the body heal and repair faster. It aids and supports immune function, protecting us from a variety of cancers.
Coconut oil, contrary to much bad press, is good for your heart. It keeps our blood platelets from sticking together (and causing dangerous clots). Coconut oil can lower your blood pressure.
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant. It protects the body from free radical damage and prevents premature aging and degenerative diseases.
Finally, coconut oil is the best massage oil on the planet. What it does to your skin, you simply have to witness. It forms a barrier against infections, softens and moisturizes your skin, and prevents wrinkling, sagging, and age spots. It promotes healthy hair and complexion, protects from any damaging UV rays.
I use two oils, Olive oil for all non-heat uses (on salads etc.) and of course Coconut oil for everything else.
I actually started using coconut oil 10 years ago for my dogs after reading about it in one of my natural health books for dogs.When I saw the “thick dogs” trim down and noticed their coats were super shiny I started eating it right away.One more thing about coconut oil for dogs (and people), it deodorizes, so my pooches don’t have any doggy smell. I use it to brush their teeth also!”
What happens when you make a highly successful, opinionated documentary? The detractors come out of the woodwork and they’re militant and aiming to take you down.
Annoyed by Spurlock’s blatant irresponsibility in eating McDonald’s three times a day for 30 days straight, not exercising between meals and then belly-aching about gaining 24-pounds, seeing his cholesterol level rocket out of control and generally feeling like shit, fitness expert and muscle-bound bodybuilder Chazz Weaver has taken up the challenge of the 30 day McDiet himself, claiming at the beginning of the experiment that he won’t only avoid the danger of becoming Grimace as Spurlock did, but he’ll actually lose weight in the process.
Looks interesting has anyone seen this? I’ll take 2 apple pies with that. In theory it can work, but…..
Regardless of the reason(s) you are getting into better shape, make sure that you record your fitness history with before and after photo’s. Use those before photo’s to motivate you in continuing to reach your health and fitness goals. Later you may find that the photo’s you take are just what a friend or close relative needs to see to get into better shape.
Somebody with a low self body image may think, “My body sucks, why couldn’t I have been born as physically fit as ______ (insert name in blank)”. Having your own before and after shots can help motivate them to realize that they can also improve their own physiques. They don’t just have to sit and feel helpless. They don’t have to be stuck in the same body everyday.
Now I’m putting my picture to expose myself. I have nothing to hide and have fitness goals like everyone else. We can go on this journey together, in hopes of being better than we are now.
The term “cookie diet” refers to a low calorie diet based on a hunger-controlling, meal replacements in the form of a cookie. There are a number of cookie diets currently on the market such as Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet, Smart for Life and Hollywood Cookie Diet. Ranging from four to six cookies a day, each plan relies on specially formulated cookies as the primary source of nutrition and vitamins. The diets are founded on the principle that the greatest dieter motivation is seeing fast results and that cookies are convenient and portable.
Now i’ve read books on how this a multi billion dollar industry weight loss,diet and wellness. People are actually buying this crap, eat a cookie and lose weight?! WTF?! Normally, I read articles & do some background research, in this case HELL NO! Please let me know what you think about this you can google it. I’ll leave it up to you guys to tear this thing up
There was an infomercial called “POP A COOKIE”, I guess they called it quits. All you need these days are a doctor on the payola and a fitness model with a before and after picture. HELP WE NEED SANITY
I’ve been getting some emails about how does a man like you cook…just kidding. But seriously this is an easy and fun alternative, the recipe is below.
Ingredients
* 1-cup raw almonds
* 1 1/2 teaspoons spices i.e. pepper/paprika/garlic/onion/(salt …I don’t do salt)
* 2 teaspoons of parm cheese and flour
* 2 large eggs whites
* 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 ounces each)
* Spray olive oil
* Salad /tomatoes
Directions
Finely chop the almonds in a mini-chopper or food processor. Transfer the nuts to a shallow dish and stir in the spices, parm. and flour. Lightly whisk the egg whites in another shallow dish. Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Whisk egg whites in a second shallow dish. (I added a couple of teaspoons of warm water) Add chicken tenders and turn to coat. Transfer each piece to the almond mixture; turn to coat evenly. (Discard any remaining egg white and almond mixture.) Place the coated chicken on the prepared rack and coat with cooking spray; turn and spray the other side.
Bake the chicken until golden brown, crispy and no longer pink in the center, 20 to 25 min
Note: Some of my almonds fell off so make sure you chop/process or blend to a semi fine consistency.
Slice thinly and use on salad for the week or have ready for an easy snack.
